September 14th 2016  The AGM will be followed by a talk on 'Long Compton at Domesday' by Bill Cook. Bill has been researching our village as it was recorded in 1086, when the Domesday book was compiled.

New friends and members will be most welcome to join us at 7.30 in the village hall.

As we near the end of the year, let me say how very grateful I am to all the Friends for your hard work during 2017, and the tremendous support you continue to give to our village church. 

I would also like to warmly invite you to join us at our annual Carol Service on Sunday 17 December at 5pmThis is a traditional service of well-known carols and Bible readings. It is suitable for all ages; children are invited to dress up as angels or shepherds. Readings are given by representatives of several of the many clubs and societies in Long Compton and the service is followed by seasonal refreshments.

Regular exhibitor at national garden shows and home of the national Pelargonium and Hedera (ivy) collections.   Although a general garden nursery they also specialise in begonias and ferns. Talk and coffee.

MILL DENE GARDEN, Blockley GL56 9HU

This garden is often cited in articles and books as among the best gardens in the country.  It is set around a water mill dating from the C10th, and has interest throughout the season.  We will have a talk from the owner.  Cream tea.

Rare survivals of Victorian gardens used by townsfolk who lived above their businesses. The area was in decline after the 2nd WW but rescued in the 1990s. It is now is protected by a trust; some buildings are Grade 2 listed.  Tea included.
