Village Hall News

Hopefully you all have the date in your diaries – this month, our main event is the village street party which will take place at the village hall and grounds on Saturday 11th June between 2.30 and 5pm.

We will be decorating the hall, marquee and grounds in suitably patriotic fashion and we hope to see a great turnout for this special occasion.

Get ready to capture your significant memories from any time in the Queen’s 90 years – we will be building a Long Compton memory archive for future generations to appreciate.

On a very different note…we are seeking a piano ‘cradle’ to help us move the piano without damaging the wooden floor of the hall. If you happen to have one which you are willing to donate to the village hall, we’d be delighted to hear from you!

And finally… a reminder that we’ll be holding our annual Summer Fete and Dog Show on Saturday 2nd July.  More information next month.

Long Compton Bridal Shop Voted ‘Best In The World’!

Set up in July 2012 by local resident Ramsey Soudah, Our remote village bridal shop has recently been voted ‘The Most Popular Bridal Shop in The World’ in the Wedding Expert Industry Awards.  This amazing award is some achievement for a bridal shop only just 3 years into trading and in such a small village such as ours.

“For the last 20 years I worked from home as an advisor, helping people set up and run small to medium sized businesses” explains Ramsey, “My first customer was a lady wanting to set up her own bridal shop, I knew nothing about this industry but felt it was a challenge. After helping this woman, she recommended me to another lady wanting to open a bridal shop and before I knew it I was helping 15-20 women open up bridal shops all over the UK”.

Prior to this Ramsey was a truck and coach driver and knew as much about wedding dresses as the next man! With his 20 years experience helping others, together with listening to brides over the same period and understanding their complaints and issues with existing bridal shops Ramsey decided he could do better and took the brave step to use the empty shop and he hasn’t looked back since.

Three years on the business has gone through many changes get to where they are today.  Brides are travelling to our village from all four corners of the country and apparently eve from as far away as France!

Ramsey now runs the shop with present partner Emma Ireland and together they are extremely proud of their excellent good name within the industry and they have won several awards along the way.

It’s not all just good news for Ramsey and Emma though; the shop has brought in other business to the village too with both The Red Lion and The local village stores seeing an increase in trade from those visiting.

“Brides often bring fairly huge parties with them to the shop and usually visit the local pub before or after their appointments with us. Sometimes the groom-to-be and/or a father come along too and they will sit in the pub whilst the women are in with us for several hours” says Emma.

“Many brides who come to the shop have never heard of Long Compton before they visit us” says Ramsey, “They all comment what a beautiful village and what a lovely spot for wedding dress shopping. We get brides coming to us from hundreds of miles away, the only brides we don’t seem to get are ones from the village, I think they are frightened of coming to us in case they don’t find the dress, but they really don’t have to feel like that, we don’t sell to every bride and we never make anyone feel they have to buy from us, we are extremely understanding and approachable. In fact we would love all the villagers to know we don’t just sell wedding dresses here, we have some stunning party or evening dresses too, everyone is welcome and we would love to see more ladies from the village popping in”.
