Long Compton Flood Group is a working party of the Parish Council. Over the last five years we have worked with WCC flood risk team, highways dept and the National Flood Forum.

In 2019 we became affiliated to SAFAG, Shipston Area Flood Action Group along with Brailes and other villages in the Stour catchment area.

Thanks to SAFAG and local landowners, we now have 157 Natural Flood Interventions around the village, in the form of ‘ leaky dams’, a proven way to “Slow the Flow” in times of high rainfall, bunds to hold water and then allow it to recede naturally, ponds and wood retention areas.  These are situated on the Nethercote Brook, and the Shawnbrook and other unnamed tributaries around the village.

The flood group, local landowners and volunteers will be monitoring these interventions with keen interest to see their impact on the village during times of high rainfall.
